Social Media for Virtual Events: Adapting to COVID-19

Presented by: Tonnisha English, TJE Communications

GroundWork group was pleased to have Tonnisha English as October’s virtual IT Forum presenter. Tonnisha’s presentation had a unique focus on social media for virtual events. In her presentation, Tonnisha addressed the following:

• How to use Facebook & Instagram for Events
• Going Facebook Live with Zoom
• Driving Registration for Online Events
• Things to Consider when Planning Virtual Events
• Making Use of a Content Calendar

Tonnisha shared several great tips for making the most of the social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram that your audience is likely already on. She also demonstrated how Facebook and Instagram offer creative ways to engage your audience with live events and event countdowns that provide reminders to your followers to keep them engaged. One interesting approach to going live with Facebook is to utilize Zoom – a video conferencing platform that almost everyone has tried at least once during the pandemic.

Another key takeaway is “Organization” – Tonnisha emphasized how critical it is to use some type of content calendar to stay organized, build your strategy and create content that makes sense. It’s tempting to just jump right in, but planning ahead will save you from major headaches. In addition to using a content calendar, Tonnisha highlighted several publishing tools that can help with scheduling posts to go out automatically.

She offers digital marketing solutions to nonprofits and small business owners to help them level the playing field between themselves and large corporations.
